When there are multiple qualified candidates for an open position, what determines who lands the job? Why is it that the same staff members always seem to get the high-profile projects? And what traits do leaders value most when deciding who to promote to more senior positions?

This panel of 8 library leaders will share the "unspoken" traits that influence their staffing decisions. By unspoken, we mean traits that don't always make it into a job description or a performance review, but that have a profound effect on who is hired, given choice assignments, or promoted. Traits like stress tolerance; comfort with ambiguity; a collaborative disposition; and resilience in the face of challenges.

If you aspire to be hired or promoted into a more advanced position, but don't quite know what skills to develop to position yourself to be selected for those roles, bring your questions and hear directly from North Carolina library leaders.
