We strive to provide a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment where participants may learn, network and share information with colleagues in an atmosphere of mutual respect. To that end, we request that attendees abide by the ALA Statement of Appropriate Conduct at our biennial conference and other association sponsored events. If you experience or witness something that you feel is in violation of this code of conduct, please contact Mike Crumpton at 919-271-6812 or Lorrie Russell at 336-307-0930. Smithsonian Libraries (SIL) is not one library but a network of 21 specialized research libraries in Washington DC, Maryland, New York City, and Panama. Our staff provide the Institution’s museums and research centers with resources and services that are as diverse and deep as the collections, exhibits, and scholarship they support, spanning the range of scientific and cultural pursuits of humanity from aerospace, anthropology, and art history to business history and botany, cultural history, design, philately, zoology, and much more. Many SIL resources have been digitized and are freely available to the public through our website and the Biodiversity Heritage Library, and we regularly lend our materials to other libraries. This presentation will provide an overview of SIL and the resources and expertise available to North Carolina libraries, and outline some of our newest initiatives to reach a broader, more diverse audience globally, to expand our support of K-12 education, to provide a platform for searching for experts the Smithsonian, and to forge closer relationships throughout the Smithsonian organization.
