Academic Libraries: Spaces to Promote Recreational Reading!: Research-Driven Justifications for Recreational Reading Initiatives

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
We know the multi-dimensional value of libraries as a digital and social space, but libraries are still spaces to promote recreational reading, something frequently seen in public libraries, but often challenging in an academic library environment. Despite this, both fiction and non-fiction recreational reading provides psychological, biological, and civic benefits for a reader and their greater community. This presentation will provide a research-based argument for why recreational reading programming can and should be included in academic libraries and will highlight how Durham Tech is utilizing the Read Great Things Challenge in order to promote recreational reading through a year-long individual reading challenge in the community college environment.
