First-Year Symposium (FYS) Students undergo Library Orientation through a one-night event called “Escape the Library” in September 2018. Inspired by the widespread phenomena of escape rooms and the MTV show Silent Library, the librarians at the Abbot Vincent Taylor Library redesigned the Library Orientation to resemble an escape room where every puzzle and game is related to learning about library policy and procedures. For the first time, FYS students partook in the library orientation event “Escape the Library” where each game/ puzzle brought them closer to understanding library policy and procedure while entertaining the notion of escaping the library.
