This poster summarizes an assignment completed for a project in a Collection Management course in the MLIS program at UNC Greensboro to develop a supplemental collection for the North Carolina Runaway Slave Advertisements, 1750-1865, a UNC Greensboro Digital Collection. We developed individual collections for middle school students, high school students, and middle and high school teachers to complement this digital collection of primary sources. The poster highlights what we built, what it looks like, the resources we acquired, and what we tried to advocate for with this collection. We also addressed how librarians can help with finding information to teach challenging subjects such as the history of enslavement in the United States. We devised this collection to meet the standards issued by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
