We strive to provide a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment where participants may learn, network and share information with colleagues in an atmosphere of mutual respect. To that end, we request that attendees abide by the ALA Statement of Appropriate Conduct at our biennial conference and other association sponsored events. Incorporating STEM concepts in the Garden Program encouraged kids to use problem solving and analytical skills, critical thinking and results based solutions. Incorporating STEM concepts allowed our group to learn in a hands on way the science behind nature, how to use math and technology to collect, document and interpret growth data and engineering in constructing garden related structures.

We collected data showing how our gardening program changed the perceptions and attitudes of kids regarding healthy foods, interest in STEM concepts and appreciation of nature. We will share how to make the garden more accessible, community inclusive as well as easy ways to incorporate STEM concepts in garden lesson plans. We will also provide information about our experiences and curriculum in the hopes that others could begin to formulate their own ideas of implementation with the benefit of our experience and reflection.
