Poster #3 -- Little Free Library Project Management: Small Spaces Create Big Communities!
Little Free Libraries are known for being small spaces that create big communities; furthermore, the Little Free Library life cycle from inception to installation illustrates the benefits of applying project management principles to a library project. In all library sectors, information professionals are regularly tasked with using their organizational, management, and leadership skills to guide projects to successful outcomes. While project management is often used within the corporate sector, there are multiple ways in which library projects can benefit from practices recommended by the Project Management Institute. This poster will adopt the perspective of a beginning project manager in reviewing a highly collaborative, year-long library project committed to establishing three uniquely designed and constructed Little Free Libraries on a large university campus. The objective of this poster is to use a real-life library project modeled to introduce information professionals to often-used project management terms, resources, tools, methodologies, and best practices. Poster visitors will have the opportunity to analyze the life cycle of this Little Free Library project, including draft and finished architectural drawings, descriptions of cross-campus partnerships with student organizations and university departments, lessons learned, and the project’s final deliverables.
